Vietnam boost agricultural cooperation with Madagascar

At the working session, the two leaders emphasized the importance of agricultural cooperation as a pillar in the bilateral relationship, and agreed to direct the two ministries of agriculture to hold meetings to elaborate cooperation plans.

Deputy Minister Ha Cong Tuan said that with FAO initiatives on Special Program for Food Security in the framework of South – South Cooperation, since 1996 Vietnam had signed 8 Tripartite Agreement with the participation of FAO, including 7 agreements with Africa countries (Senegal, Benin, Madagascar, Republic of Congo, Mali, Republic of Chad, and Namibia), and 1 agreement with Laos People’s Democratic Republic to support the establishment of technology transfer models in irrigation, livestock, horticulture, beekeeping, aquaculture, processing agricultural products, small-scale mechanics and scientific compilation and training. The South-South Cooperation model developed by Vietnam is highly appreciated by international friends.

At the working session, Vietnam side proposed Madagascar side facilitate Vietnam businesses to seek investment opportunities in agriculture. Vietnam side also noted that Madagascar could send experts and technicians to Vietnam for cooperation and training if needed.

Deputy Minister Ha Cong Tuan stressed that the bilateral cooperation potentials were substantial. It was necessary to mobilize resources of both sides as well as seek financial and technical assistance from international organizations and developed countries to support such the cooperative relations. With efforts and commitments of all stakeholders, the cooperative relations between Vietnam and Madagascar in agriculture would definitely yield efficiency and practical benefits, as well as actively contribute to the economic development, food security and poverty reduction in each country.
